Hilda Matthews

Born in South Africa with a rebellious spirit, Hilda hitch-hiked her way around the world discovering global art and architecture. By 1986 she had landed in North London where she experienced homelessness and instability with her children. Over time, Hilda settled in to her life in Kentish Town and became an active resident in the local area. An avid guerilla gardener, Hilda has transformed the shared garden areas of her estate with fruit trees, vegetables and beautiful herbs and flowers.

With a firm belief that everyone should access green space, Hilda came to the Highline in it’s earlier years and has been a solid supporter throughout.
